LEGENDARY SKATEBOARDER LANCE MOUNTAIN'S SB X AIR JORDAN 1 COLLABO!!

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Lance Mountain's name is legendary in the world of skateboarding. The Pasadena native is one of a small circle of names that made the skateboarding game what it is today. Mountain was a huge fan of the Air Jordan 1's when they dropped in '85, and wore them to skateboard in. Fastforward to 2014, and Lance collaborates with Nike to bring us an extraordinary SB.

Back in Lance Mountain's era, skateboarders would often rock mismatch sneakers to preserve their life. Once the sneakers became worn, they would paint over it, so you couldn't tell the actual age of the sneakers. That same idea is engrained  in these kicks.
As the sneakers are worn, the paint details are highlighted, showcasing what looks like an entirely different shoe altogether. The same principle was applied to Todd Bratraud's 2nd offering of the "4/20 SB's" also known as the "Cheech and Chong's" where the skin of the sneaker was supposed to tear away and reveal a "sticky green" layer underneath. That sneaker didn't quite live up to the hype, but that was 2011.
The insoles carry Mountain's quote, "Paint shoes, not walls" on the insoles, giving respect to those that customize their kicks. The Lance Mountain SB x Air Jordan 1 collaboration hits stores like Pharmacy Boardshop in L.A. on June 7th.  Cali "O" #TeamKickGame
