NIKE COMMISSIONS "MACHE CUSTOMS" FOR AN EXCLUSIVE PAIR OF "UCONN" KOBE 9'S FOR COACH AURIEMMA!!

Sunday, April 20, 2014

Uconn Basketball has been one of the greatest movements in college sports. This year, both the mens' and womens' basketball programs took home the NCAA Champioships. To commemorate this historic event, Nike reached out to one of the greatest custom sneaker designers, Mache. What e did with the Kobe 9's for legendary Coach Geno Auriemma is nothing short of amazing.
Keeping the traditional colorway of UConn's team colors, Mache took a page from Nike "Designing God" Tinker Hatfield, and it parallels what Tinker did on the Air Jordan XX's. With drawings of Huskies, and incorporating all of Coach Auriemma's accomplishments which blends in from the side panel, straight up to the highest point of these kicks.

The gradient fade of the tonal gray into the Navy Blue on the toe box was well done. The "black cement" splashes along the midsole give these sneakers great detail, along with the caligraphy that showcases the best of UConn Basketball.
Unfortunately, these Kobe 9's are a 1-of-1 for the coach. It's definitely a pair that shows how far sneaker customizing has come, done on an evolutionary shoe. Salute.  Cali "O" #TeamKickGame
