THROWBACK THURSDAYS: THE KOBE IV'S!!

Thursday, September 20, 2012

Touted as the LIGHTEST basketball shoe in history at the time, the Kobe IV's were released on February 6, 2009. The sneakers set alot of standards that are used today. Of course, the "Black Mamba" is a trendsetter.
The FlyWire upper, which at the time was introduced only in the HyperDunks, made its way to the lightest low top sneakers on the planet. The Phylon midsole, in addition to the Lunar Foam in the forefoot section for cushioning and support, was also a first. It was the low-cut style that removed the extra materials that you normally see in the hi-tops, that made these kicks so light, and gave Kobe maximum response on the court.
The Zoom Air Unit in the heel maximized comfort in these lightweight kicks. The colorways were creative, with a Gold "Martin Luther King" colorway, Kobe's "Signing Day" Charlotte Hornets colorway, and the popular "Chaos" were all heavy hitters. The one that really stood out was the clean, crispy Black with the High Yellow Swoosh, with "Carpe Diem" on the tongue. "Carpe Diem" means "Sieze the Day". The MVP colorway was also fire, with Kobe's stats written all over them.
The Kobe Iv's are special because Kobe won his 4th Ring in them. He also set the trend for other athletes and their signature lines. The IV's go down in history as the FIRST of its kind.  Cali "O" #KobeIVs #CarpeDiem
