We all know there's an undeniable link between Hip-Hop and sneakers. As Hip-Hop became the staple everywhere from the hood to the suburbs, Many sneaker companies took note, and saw an opportunity to reach the masses. Eric B. & Rakim released "Paid In Full" back in 1987, and it forever changed the way we saw rappers and listened to Hip-Hop music.
Fast forward 27 years (crazy right??) and Nike is the biggest sneaker brand, and gives a salute to our cultures icons.
Whether it is direct or indirect, the fact that Nike would make a pair of kicks that pays respect to high-fashion empire Gucci, while celebrating the urban streets with kicks that represent the Golden Era of Hip-Hop.
Game changers. Back in the 80's to mid 90's, Dapper Dan changed the way we looked at fashion. He was so far ahead of his time. The Nike SB's feature what Dapper Dan was doing with kicks almost 30 years ago. The SB's feature the "SB" logo done in a Gucci-type diamond structure on the top toe panel, and side panels as well. It is properly outlined in a suede nubuck. The interior of these kicks feature a money-green colorway, while the sole is finished in red. The tongue features a crown above the Nike imprint at the top.
Rakim would've rocked these back in his era, and I can see him rocking these today. After all, it was Eric B. and Rakim that brought out the gawdy jewelry with huge medallions. These SB's borrow what we've seen first on the Run-D.M.C Shell Top Adidas, where a piece of a rope chain is placed at the start of the lacelocks.
An Amazing pair of kicks, the "Blacksheep" Gucci SB's will release a special edition on June 14th, then a regular release on June 21st!! Cali "O" #TeamKickGame
