"Show me the money!!" That's a powerful line from the 1996 movie "Jerry McGuire", starring Tom Cruise and Cuba Gooding, Jr. It seems like the movie is playing out in real life, as sports agents vie for the attention of the world's most popular athletes. In walks one of the world's most popular music and business icons of this era, Jay-Z. Jay's Roc Nation got into the Sports Management game, which is very competitive for some. But for Shawn Carter, it's simple. His relationships within sports were fostered many years before he got into Sports Management. LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Alex Rodriguez are just a few names that you can associate with Jay. I'm sure after getting a taste of being an owner of the Brooklyn Nets, you naturally want to expand your brand.
Jay's amazing track record speaks for itself. It just makes sense for him to take on the challenge of Sports Management, after what he's done for so many artists that have garnered success under his umbrella. They say with success, the haters come out in droves. Some of those haters have launched an investigation to see if Jay is "breaking" recruitment rules of professional sports. I seriously doubt Jay-Z is breaking any rules. Here you have a Black man with so much influence in every market, I believe the players want to be a part of what Jay-Z is building. Anything he touches turns a profit. So for Kevin Durant to join Roc Nation Sports would only benefit Durant in building his brand to reach a broader audience.
