Already holdin' the torch, Fred the Godson is a well known spitter wit witty punchlines and metaphors that have you buggin' for days. Fred is also known in sneaker circles for his Foam game! We've seen Fred rock other kicks as well, like the classic all white AF1, Jordan 11's, or the Adidas track sneakers. However, Fred's Foam game is on another level. We've seen him in every colorway of the Foamposite One, and a few limited edition Penny Rookie LWP's, including the "Glow-In-The-Dark" joints.
"I think when the season starts - whenever that may be - he should have his jersey put up for what he did not just for the team, but for the city...We all know how great Penny has been for the game of basketball."
Game organizer Dwight Howard, offering his sentiments about Penny Hardaway to the Orlando Sentinel. 8,000 fans cramed in the University of Central Florida's gym on Sunday. Penny received a large ovation when Howard announced him in the lineup, rounding out the "Old School" squad in Howard's D12 Foundation charity basketball exhibition.
For the game, Penny broke out two of his most talked about player exclusives. While the Nike Zoom Rookie LWP made its way on the feet of several players (and even celebrity coach Lil' Wayne), nobody could match Penny's "Memphis Blues" Nike Zoom Rookie LWP . The Marc Dolce-designed shoe originally debuted at the Zoom Rookie LWP launch event in Las Vegas, and features an all blue Foamposite and suede upper that pays tribute to Penny and his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.
Penny was not done yet, as he also wore the "all white" Foamposite One PE special colorway originally made for him to wear at the University of Memphis "Midnight Madness" event.
during the Nike x SC event over the weekend, Penny Hardaway was sporting another PE dubbed the ‘Memphis Blues’ – a 1-of-1 made for Mr. One Cent himself.
However those weren't the only custom item made just for him for Saturday night's Nike x Sole Collector event in Las Vegas. He also entered the building in an exactly tailored Nike Destroyer jacket filled with personal touches and details from throughout his life.
"I wanted to pay homage to Penny's hometown and how he got into the league, so I designed a bespoke Nike Destroyer jacket just for him for the launch event," says NSW Footwear & Apparel Design Lead Marc Dolce. "I wanted to use the original 1 logo from the Flight One as the key piece, and then you'll notice his initials with the Tennessee state outline right below that."
On both sleeves, you'll notice patches highlighting the tattoos across his biceps, "The Storm Is Over" and "Part II Heaven Cent." A bold "Memphis" full grain leather nameplate highlights the back of the jacket, and the Bulldog tattoo found on his leg is also found on the lower right.
Lastly, the inner neck features his favorite phrase, "Ballin' Is What I Was Born To Do," and his signature sign-off.
