15 YEARS: WE STILL REMEMBER THE GREATEST M.C.!!

Feels like almost yesterday. Runnin' up to the Bad Boy office to chill, hangin' out wit Craig Mack. Or, more fond memories of the crew hangin' wit the legendary Brooklyn King, Biggie and his crew up at Esso. Hova would come thru in a Do-rag and some slippers wit a bottle of champagne in his hand. Those were the days.
15 years have gone by, and we ask "where did the time go?" Every year we celebrate with the music of one of Hip-Hop's most iconic figures. We still remember his lyrics like he just spit it. The swag, the look. The tone and cadence in his voice.
I remember thinkin' "if I get on a song wit BIG, I'm gon kill it!!" but he had so many cats in line. Every song Biggie touched was magic. When Mello (yes, CEO of KickGame DVD) was about 10 or 11, He came to stay wit me in the Bronx. I got a promo tape from Puff the day before called "West Side Story". Biggie was bodyin' all Snoop and Dre beats! At the end of the tape, there was a song introducin' the Lox wit BIG called "You'll See". When I played the joints, Mello and Specs both liked what Biggie was spittin', and I told them this dude is bout to take over Hip-Hop. True Story.
I can go on for days. Biggie represented everything great about Brooklyn, and being young and Black in America. Fabolous has always been known for being super fresh I'm talkin before rap!. Now you might have seen post on different "Sneaker Sites" about him rockin the "Quai 54" Jordan V's above. The thing that bugs me out is none of these sites say anything about "how he rocked them!".


At first glance I thought these looked like a pair of those FAKE Jordan's that hackers post on Facebook!. Now after seeing how these look when rocked correctly, I can definitely see myself in a pair. NOT just because Fabolous is wearing them. Rather because this presentation of the shoe enhanced all the features.

Today we want to send our Love out to the family of the Notorious BIG. This year makes 14 years since BIG was taken from us, in the physical form at least. What BIG left behind in his short career was more than music. He left behind the type of legacy that many rappers hope to leave behind.


Of course the fact that he died made him more popular. However while he was alive he was the man!. He had the whole coast on his back off the strength of one album . I remember watching BIG win all those awards at the "1995 Source Awards". That shit was in NYC at "MSG". It was like watching Kobe kill the whole league at the "All Star Game" in Los Angeles. It was "BEAUTIFUL"!,.. Those "Death Row" cats were so salty "Suge Knight" dissed "Diddy" on stage.




From the "Good Old Days" to the "Good New Days" BIG's music is still bangin coast to coast we all see & hear BIG if you listen close enough. I still can't even pick one favorite Biggie song!. It's like trying to pick your favorite Jordan of All Time. Salute the one of the greatest rappers of all time, "You Know His Name!".

Being a New Yorker your naturally born with a powerful sense of "Home Town Pride". Nevertheless when your born in Brooklyn you have that pride " x 10". You see & hear stories of the many great men who came through this (world famous) borough, they went on to do incredible things. So everybody feels like that could be them. I would have to say that Biggie Smalls & Jay-Z are the two dudes who single handily held it down " For my generation " at least the past two decades!. Both undeniable Hip Hop Heavyweights/ Hip Hop Culture Commanders!.



I'm not a rapper but the "Hip Hip/ Rap Culture" is part of our everyday life. It's the way you "get your hair cut, the way you "tie your shoe laces" , the way you " way you cuff your denim!", the way you "wear your fitted", the way you "walk", definitely the way you "talk" etc..



So where do I fit into this equation? I'm the next up to bat for my borough!. I've been sitting in the dugout patiently waiting for my turn & now it's here. It's not gonna be easy to reach these two (BIG & JAY) nevertheless " I'm ready to carry on the tradition!". BROOKLYN You Already Know!... "I got you".

Today you would have been 38 year old, it's been 13 years & I still can't believe your gone (4 real). As I sit down & tearfully write you this open letter, I think about growing up & watching you "inspire & teach" the whole East Coast how to be what we now call a "Boss!!" back then it was the "Don!!!". Aside from being the flyest dude ever ( custom made Versace button downs!! YESSIR) you showed me that " a team is only as strong as their leader!!". And you unquestionably had the sickest team but you were the head on "Voltron".


Now that I'm doing my thing, I wanna say thanks for inspiring me & laying out the blueprint. As I get ready for "Sneaker Con" tomorrow & "DXC" on Sunday. I want you to know that I'm gonna put on for the whole NYC as I always do. I know your watching!! & you see how I've grown but like you said in 1996 "Listen had to change my position/ From wanting to be large/ To Head N!gg@ In Charge!!!!". WORD!
